The Big Dude Ranch at Ponderosa is situated just a couple of miles west of the Pigeon Forge Parkway and offers horseback riding year-round on a daily basis. This is your chance to travel back in time and experience the Smokies as the early settlers did 200 years ago! The trail is a 3.5-mile ride with stunning views of the mountains, and no appointments are necessary, so just show up when you’re ready for your adventure!
2. Cades Cove Riding Stables
The Cades Cove Riding Stables are the only national park-authorized stables of Cades Cove, so don’t miss the chance to see this incredible area by horseback! As you travel along with your guide, you’ll learn about the history of the Cove, discover what lies beneath the forest canopy, and perhaps even see some woodland critters! The trail rides are approximately 1 hour long, depart continually throughout the day, and no reservations are required. The Cades Cove Riding Stables are open from early March to late November.
3. Davy Crockett Riding Stables
Another one of the great places to go horseback riding in the Smoky Mountains is Davy Crockett Riding Stables, located in Townsend TN. This is a wonderful opportunity to enjoy the beauty and diversity of the Smokies while riding horseback with a knowledgeable guide! There are several trail rides available, ranging from 30 minutes to a half day. The stables are open from March 1 to November 30, and reservations are preferred.
4. Five Oaks Riding Stables
The Five Oaks Riding Stables offer hour-long rides on a shady 3.5-mile trail where you’ll encounter gorgeous trees, streams, mountain views, and even an authentic moonshine still! These stables are located at the Adventure Park at Five Oaks in Sevierville TN, and are open daily from 9 AM to 7 PM. Note that reservations are required due to the popularity of the ride!
5. Jayell Ranch Adventure Park
When it comes to horseback riding in the Smoky Mountains, the Jayell Ranch Adventure Park is one of the highest-rated stables in the Smokies! These stables are located in Sevierville TN, and offer hour-long horseback rides where you’ll wind through beautiful mountain trails and see views as far as North Carolina, Shields Mountain Fort, and Mt LeConte! The Jayell Ranch Adventure Park is open daily from 9 AM to 5 PM, and reservations are required.
